From the bench to the body

I earned my PhD in Physiology, Endocrinology and Metabolism and spent years researching how exercise and nutrition change metabolic disease, first at São Paulo State University (UNESP) and the University of Campinas (UNICAMP) in Brazil, then as a postdoctoral fellow and research associate at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver. My published work covers hyperinsulinemia, insulin resistance, hepatic metabolism and the cellular mechanisms that make strength training and aerobic exercise the most reliable metabolic medicine we have.

I founded Team Botezelli in 2020 because most of what reaches people about weight loss does not survive contact with that literature. Every program I write, online or in person at the Port Coquitlam office, is held to the standard I used as a researcher: peer-reviewed sources, effect sizes that matter, and honest limits on what the data can claim. I am also a Certified Personal Trainer and a Precision Nutrition Coach, and I have coached more than 2,000 clients, in person and online.

What that means for you

I measure first. In person that means bioimpedance, indirect calorimetry and ultrasound where recommended; online it means photographs and measurements. I write your nutrition and training program myself, review your weekly report myself, and change the plan as your body responds. If you are on GLP-1 medication, I work alongside your prescribing clinician's plan, with protein and strength training set up to keep muscle while the weight comes off.

I am a PhD researcher and a coach, not a physician. I do not diagnose, treat or prescribe, and I will tell you when a question belongs to your doctor.
